Odometer morning of June 19 – leaving Pomona. Didn’t stay for the second day of the show. Have lots to do on our way home!

Nipton, CA – A lone gas station in the middle of nowhere. This was the most expensive gas we’d seen on the entire trip. Naturally, we use the $5.19 per gallon stuff. We didn’t fill up.
Sign outside this same gas station. We’re heading in the direction of Las Vegas but not GOING to Las Vegas.
We were on our way to Hoover Dam but as you near Las Vegas you get into other towns cashing in on the gambling fever. Sure wasn’t as pretty as the scenery we’ve seen on the rest of the trip. The bugs on the windshield probably didn’t add to the clutter.
Outside Vegas – Someone is having RV troubles. Not sure why this person was dressed like this. Reinforced our decision to get to Hoover Dam.

Before the new bridge was completed in 2010, cars had to drive the hairpin road below to get across the river.

Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge (with a 1,060 foot twin-rib concrete arch) began in late January 2005 and traffic began using the Hoover Dam Bypass on October 19, 2010. This signature bridge spans the Black Canyon (about 1,500 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River.

Dambar Steak House in Kingman. A bit earlier we had pulled into a motel parking lot to make a decision on where to stay. A bunch of guys ‘swarmed’ around the coupe with cameras clicking. They belonged to a Vette Club in Norway and were seeing some of the sights of the US. They were 22 in total and had rented a BUNCH of brand new Corvettes in California. This steak house had been recommended to them, so we decided to go, too. Great meal.

After our steak dinner at the Dambar, Paul & Dorothy went for an ice cream at this Route 66 diner. Lots of memorabilia and character. Time to call it a day!
